Burton Manor Ladies A Team (Captain Pauline Dunn) won the Clive Weatherer trophy on Monday night

In an exciting contest against Universal club at the Amasal club, the final of Clive Weatherer Trophy ended up with three wins each. On countback of the scores of the two doubles matches and the four singles matches, Burton Manor were ahead and duly won the trophy, which was presented by Mrs Weatherer, the widow of Clive.

The night was full of tension from the outset, Universal believing that the start time was 6pm and Burton Manor 6.30pm. The Burton Manor team were weakened by the non-availability of Margaret Glaister , Jenny Rennison and Lorna Webster, who had been ever present in the round robin stages and the semi-final against Greenway. The Burton Manor team were well supported by their colleagues from the B team and the Bowls Club secretary, Alan Hancock.

The two doubles went to Universal and they were growing in confidence as the lead went to 3-0 as the Manor lost the first singles match. Then, dramatically, late wins from Helen Moore, Hilary Glaister and Pauline Dunn made the match all square in terms of games. The countback went to Burton Manor, who celebrated in the Amasal club house.
