On the morning of Saturday 27th December 2008, the fire brigade was called to the premises by motorists on the M6 who noticed a plume of smoke coming from the building.

The services turned up to find the clubhouse burning furiously.

Scenes of Crime investigators identified damage indicating that the clubhouse was broken into. At this stage we are aware that a large amount of alcohol was stolen.

The clubhouse building was completely gutted by the fire. Many members (some who had built the clubhouse themselves) turned up to look on in disbelief as the fire services continued to make the building safe late into the afternoon. “This is more than just a building” said Chris Fields, Chairman of the Association, “this is a community that has been damaged by this mindless act.”

On the positive side, it is fortunate that the fire services managed to extinguish the blaze before damage could be done to adjacent buildings. So the squash courts, badminton hall and snooker room are undamaged.

The Council of the Association will meet on Sunday to discuss plans on how to get facilities up and running as soon as possible. Progress updates will be available on the website.
