NEW CLUBHOUSE PROGRESS

31st October / 8th February
.....
11th September
The building of our new clubhouse is now underway!
Mark Bradley of Pegasus Building Services has replaced
the previous Project Manager.
All concerned have agreed this change as a way of ‘speeding up’ the building project.
Pegasus has issued a build plan, this is attached to this notice, and if all goes to schedule we should be in our new clubhouse by Christmas this year.
It will be necessary at the early stage of the New Clubhouse construction, due to Health & Safety building regulations that the following changes will need to be made.
New Front Access Door
It is planned to close off the front door for entry/ exit and open up the rear fire door as the main entrance/ exit.
A wooden decking walkway with full lighting will be constructed for access.
Snooker Room
It is intended that access to the Snooker room will have to be through the Badminton hall, and this will be achieved by opening up the currently
sealed doorway.
There will have to be cooperation between Snooker & Badminton players, who will need to agree on the times of access to the snooker room.

Following a meeting today with Mike McLean & Keith Drury from the Insurers loss adjusters ‘Cunningham Lindsey’, our insurance advisor, Kay Toms & Surveyor Graham Woodall, it has been agreed to award the building of our new clubhouse to the ‘Pegasus’ Consortium, headed by Mark Bradley.
This means that construction can begin as soon as possible, and with a 16-week target for rebuilding we may be in the new club by Xmas!
Thanks to everyone involved for the work that has been done so far & to the membership for their continued

19th. June 2009
Following a recent meeting with our Independent Insurance Claims Advisor and our Chartered Surveyor we wish to inform the members of the progress so far.
A short list of building contractors quotations are currently being considered so that within the next few weeks our advisers can present these to our Insurers loss adjusters,
who will need to agree on covering the costs involved so that we can start building our new clubhouse.
We are expecting a decision from the Stafford Borough Planning on the new building by the 5th.July 2009.
As a number of members requested, we have instructed the Architect to consider moving the kitchen area to a location nearer to the existing Badminton building,
he will therefore apply for a minor modification to the building plans, subject to receiving final planning approval.
The construction time is estimated at 16 weeks from the start of the building the project.
Therefore, realistically, we should be in our new club in November / December 2009.
We are continuing to improve the conditions in the temporary balcony bar,
and are hoping that the area by the porta cabin can be cleared, grassed over and our willing volunteers can construct a patio / picnic area within the next few weeks.
We will continue to keep the membership informed of the progress and once again thank you all for your support during this difficult time.

April 2009
You may have noticed a second hand porta cabin outside, don’t worry this is not intended as a temporary bar, but Colin Gallow obtained this unit
at minimal cost and it is our intention to ‘do it up’ and use as temporary extra space for meetings, outdoor events etc.
The plans have been drawn up for the New Clubhouse and submitted to the Stafford Planning Department for approval, this will take about 8 weeks.
The plans have also been sent to a number of builders, including members, who have requested the opportunity to quote.
The plans are on the BMSA Balcony Bar notice board and you are invited to comment on the details of the New Clubhouse layout.
The Clubhouse has been designed to join up to the existing squash & badminton buildings, which will make more internal space and improve security.
The Temporary Balcony Bar will be used until the new Clubhouse is finished, and the General Council Committee
have agreed that improvements will be made to offer Members a more comfortable environment.
We do not yet have any firm completion dates for the rebuild, but assuming all goes to plan
we should be hoping to move into the New Clubhouse by early Autumn this year.
Progress reports will be posted on the notice board at regular intervals.
THE PLANS ARE ON DISPLAY IN THE BALCONY BAR

Clubhouse Fire Damage
To keep the BMSA Members informed
I have listed the current activities of the Fire Committee
DEMOLITION:
The demolition of the damaged clubhouse will now commence on Tuesday 17th. March 2009, by J.Wise, Demolition Company, Stoke on Trent.
The work site should clear of all rubble by the end of that week.
NEW CLUBHOUSE:
Our Surveyor Graham Woodall is arranging for Architectural drawings for a new clubhouse to be submitted to the BMSA General Council (GC) by 20th. March 2009 for approval.
The new construction will probably be of brick with tiled roof.
The new plans will incorporate improvements to the old layout, and possibly joining onto and creating access to the badminton hall. (this is all subject to any possible costs to BMSA)
If the GC accepts the plans these will be submitted to at least 3 reputable builders, and the GC will stipulate that any Club Member who wishes to quote should be included.
When quotes are received the costs will be discussed with The GC / our Independent Loss Adjuster, Kay Toms of Baker-Toms, and then with The Insurers Loss Adjusters.
(a similar procedure will be operating at the same time over our contents claim)
Finally a company will be selected by mutual agreement and rebuild work would be commenced.
Target dates for staring building, subject to planning (formality only, but still time consuming)
Beginning May 2009
Completion of new clubhouse – end of August 2009
TEMPORARY BAR
We are all aware of the limitations that the Balcony Bar offers, and although it is better than no bar, the Fire Committee are actively looking for suitable Porta Cabin type of buildings, that will be sited on the land between the Table Tennis hut and the old clubhouse.
The Time Plan for this is 4 to 6 weeks, bearing in mind the site need leveling, the units will need to be fitted out with all services, and a bar etc.
The Fire Committee will provide the best Temporary clubhouse Facility possible, without undue delays, however we have also established that we need to apply for another drinks licence, when the units are in place! (28 days notice required)

23rd. February 2009
We have been informed today that our Insurers have now admitted Liability and will be paying BMSA to rebuild our clubhouse.
The General Council Committee will now be discussing with our Loss Adjuster the details of the claim and I will keep you informed of the progress in due course.

16th. February 2009
There has been an unexpected delay in the settlement of the Insurance claim for the fire damage to our clubhouse.
The General Council Committee wish to assure members that we are exerting a great deal of pressure on our Insurers to finalise this claim as soon as possible,
so that we can move forward and provide members with a replacement quality clubhouse bar without undue delay.
There should be further news announced at anytime, which will be posted on the notice board as soon as this is available.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.
Sincerely

FIRE DAMAGE TO THE CLUB BAR
As you may already be aware the club bar has been destroyed by a fire on Saturday 27th. December 2008
The police are investigating the cause, but it appears to have been the result of a break in.
ALL SPORTS FACILITIES ARE UNEFFECTED BY THIS DAMAGE
AND ARE CONTINUING AS NORMAL.
There have subsequently been a number of meetings by your General Council and also our Insurance Brokers.
Obviously we are aware of the importance of providing our membership with a suitable area in which to socialise.
Getting things sorted out may take some time, so we would ask our members to bear with us during this period.

SQUASH & BADMINTON COURTS
NOT
DAMAGED BY FIRE

On the morning of Saturday 27th December, the fire brigade was called to the premises by motorists on the M6 who noticed a plume of smoke coming from the building.
The services turned up to find the clubhouse burning furiously.
Scenes of Crime investigators identified damage indicating that the clubhouse was broken into. At this stage we are aware that a large amount of alcohol was stolen.
The clubhouse building was completely gutted by the fire. Many members (some who had built the clubhouse themselves) turned up to look on in disbelief as the fire services continued to make the building safe late into the afternoon. “This is more than just a building” said Chris Fields, Chairman of the Association, “this is a community that has been damaged by this mindless act.”
On the positive side, it is fortunate that the fire services managed to extinguish the blaze before damage could be done to adjacent buildings. So the squash courts, badminton hall and snooker room are undamaged.
The Council of the Association will meet on Sunday to discuss plans on how to get facilities up and running as soon as possible. Progress updates will be available on the website.
